Green Office Maastricht
Mission: The Green Office Maastricht coordinates and initiates ecological, social and economic sustainability projects at Maastricht University.
Vision: The Green Office Maastricht promotes sustainability as a topic of active concern among students, staff and faculty, and advances a self-perpetuating process of organizational transition towards a greener campus.
The mission and vision will be realized with the help of three strategies:
1. Create a UM wide support platform for the exchange of information and connection of stakeholders
2. Facilitate the realization of ideas and initiatives related to sustainability
3. Promote cultural and policy change at Maastricht University.
The university has formulated the following sustainability mission statement:
We, the Maastricht University community, affirm our commitment to protect and enhance the environment through our learning, research, service and administrative operations. We seek to foster a community that sustains ecological systems and promotes education about environmental awareness, local action and global thinking. We seek to incorporate environmental principles and environmentally responsible practices as fundamental and integrated components in all of Maastricht University’s operations and programmes. Our fundamental principles are to:
- prioritize environmental concerns in university decision making
- seek alternative practices and procedures to minimise negative impacts on the environment
- conserve natural resources and restore environmental quality in our region
- consider the social, economic and environmental effects of Maastricht University’s operational policies, and foster a participatory process in developing these policies.
Our decisions and actions will be guided by the university’s mission statement, reflective of our resources, and informed by our strategic programme. As a learning institution, we recognise that planning for sustainability will be an evolving practice.
