In June 2007 the Vereniging samenwerkende Nederlandse Universiteiten (Association of Dutch Universities) and thus Maastricht University joined the (Multiple Year Agreement for Energy Efficiency). The MJA3 is the third agreement by the Dutch state with companies, universities, townships and industry organizations to improve energy efficiency in the Netherlands. Having signed this agreement, the university commits itself to increase its energy efficiency by 30% from 2005 to 2020 – leading to an annual improvement of 2-percentage-points. This improving energy efficiency, is then expected to lead to an absolute decrease in CO2 emissions. To achieve this ambitious aim, signatories to the MJA3 commit themselves i.e. to develop an energy-efficiency-plan on how to reduce energy usage, to install renewable energy technologies and to continually monitor and report their progress to the Platform MJA3.

The Green Office Maastricht recognizes and embraces this commitment. Our projects will help the university to realize this aim.
